A letter from Webbie on the first anniversary of his death

WEBSTER BECKER-BRUSS

4 EVER WAY

HEAVEN, ABOVE  XOXOX

Dear Mom,

Well it’s been a year since I had to leave and come here to wait for you.  I miss you very much and I know you miss me too.  I really enjoyed our visit the other day when you took my box down from the mantle and held me on your lap.  I miss that a lot.

I wanted to tell you not to worry about me.  I’m doing well and it’s beautiful here.  I can see and hear again and my neck doesn’t hurt anymore.  We have flowers and trees and the weather is always nice.  We can have anything we want to eat; even garbage or chicken bones.  You see, nothing can hurt us here.

Oh, and don’t let anyone tell you pets don’t go to heaven.  I have met a lot of pets waiting on their masters.  I even met Breca and the others and even that funny looking lop-eared rabbit.  Bob’s dogs Bonnie and Butch are here and we get together now and then for a visit.  They are both very nice, but being mid-westerners, a bit laid back.  I don’t know if you know it or not but they are both black.  That doesn’t bother me though… cause as you know I’m not prejudiced at all.  I see everything in black and white.

I think of you often and of all the good times we had.  I remember the first time we met and how I knew that you and I were perfect for each other. When I heard you were coming to adopt me I put on my best bandana and made sure my hair was just perfect.  Then I did my best to look as cute as I could so you wouldn’t change your mind.  You and Linda were so funny trying to get me out of there before those other people arrived.

Do you remember how much fun we had when you would give me a bath and I would sneak out and play in the mud?  Or when you would try to catch me and I would let you get just close enough to think you could grab me and then I would dash off again. We had such fun.  I really loved our life together.

I could go on and on but I know you have lots to do.  I am looking forward to having you here with me but please don’t rush to get here.  I will be here for a long, long time so you can come when you are finished there.  I love you very much but I know that Bob does too and he wants you with him as long as possible.

Well, I guess I’d better get going.  There are new arrivals coming in all the time and I have cats to chase and butts to smell.

Keep me in your heart till we meet again on this side.

I love you very much.
